Parkinson’s is an extremely serious condition, linked in several respects with Alzheimer’s Disease, another neurodegenerative disorder. These disabilities impose enormous human and financial burdens on individuals, their families and PPRIfriends, always for years, sometimes for decades.

Sustained funding by organizations such as the Pacific Parkinsons Research Institute is essential to the Centre’s ability to remain at the forefront of Parkinson’s research worldwide.

According to Dr. Donald Calne, Director Emeritus of Pacific Parkinson’s Research Centre:

“There are three major tasks in directing a biomedical research group.
  • First, there is the problem of identifying and solving the questions posed by science.

  • Second, there is the challenge of finding the bright people whose minds can be focused on the science.

  • Third, there is the need to sustain the science.

The Pacific Parkinsons Research Institute provides the funding needed to perform these three complex tasks.”

Ongoing research will improve the quality of life of those with Parkinson’s and their families. It will also reduce the financial impact of this condition on our health care system.

Most important of all, research will bring the Centre’s scientists closer to discovering the causes of and cure for Parkinson’s.
