 The
Pacific Parkinsons Research Institute exists to provide ongoing financial
support for research into and treatment of Parkinson’s and related
disorders.
For the past 10 years, the Institute
has served as a major funder of research undertaken by the Pacific Parkinson’s
Research Centre. It has played an important role in enabling the Centre
to assume a leadership role in Parkinson’s research.
Peer-reviewed grants will continue
to serve as an important source of funding for the Centre.
However, to meet the Centre’s
longer-term needs, considerable additional funding is required.
The Institute is raising funds
that will enable the Centre to:
| Retain and recruit scientists. This is
crucial to the development of new areas of research;
Provide funding for early stage innovative
research, leading up to the research that qualifies for peer-reviewed
grants;
Provide essential infrastructure; and
Fund both clinical and basic science trainees
to work at the Centre for two to five years. There they will learn
to develop research programs of their own at Centres in Canada and
elsewhere in the world. |
