Drs. Stuchly Fund for Excellence in Parkinson’s Research

Dr. Sam Fereshtehnejad

Dr. Sam Fereshtehnejad is a neurologist, neuroscientist and clinician-scientist specializing in movement disorders and neurodegenerative diseases. He joined the Pacific Parkinson’s Research Centre and the University of British Columbia in February 2026, where he leads translational research on prodromal neurodegeneration, precision biomarkers, and preventive strategies for Parkinson’s disease.

Trained in medicine, public health, medical education, neuroscience, neurology, and health informatics, he has authored nearly 300 peer-reviewed publications advancing precision neurology and global neurodegeneration research.

Dr. Fereshtehnejad’s recruitment—competed internationally—marks the culmination of a multi-year collaboration between PPRI and PPRC aimed at enabling the continuity of research success within PPRC, and made possible by the extraordinary generosity of the late Drs. Stan and Maria Stuchly and by our PPRI community donors at large. In this way, PPRI was able to create and fund the new Drs. Stuchly Fund for Excellence in Parkinson’s Research, with UBC, to secure Dr. Fereshtehnejad’s appointment.
